Tea has long been revered as more than just a beverage; it’s a ritual, a moment of peace in an otherwise chaotic world. The simple act of preparing and enjoying a cup of tea invites us to slow down, breathe deeply, and immerse ourselves in the present moment. When done mindfully, tea becomes a bridge between the external world and our inner selves, offering a space for contemplation and tranquility.
The Mystery Deck, while often seen as a tool for mindfulness, goes beyond that—it helps foster a deeper connection with ourselves and the natural world. Each card, like the tea card, serves as a gentle reminder to pause and appreciate the small yet profound moments in our daily lives. It encourages us to create rituals, like tea time, that ground us and nurture our well-being.
The tea card, with its invitation to savor a cup of tea, isn’t just about mindfulness; it’s about creating a ritual that connects you with the essence of life. As you prepare your tea, consider the origins of the leaves, the hands that harvested them, and the journey they took to reach you. As you sip, allow yourself to be fully present, appreciating the warmth, the aroma, and the taste.
In a world that often pulls us in a thousand different directions, the Mystery Deck offers a path back to ourselves and to the natural rhythms of life. It’s a reminder that mindfulness is not just about awareness but also about cultivating a deep connection with the world around us. So, as you draw your cards and brew your tea, know that you’re not just practicing mindfulness—you’re engaging in a sacred ritual that honors both your spirit and the earth.

In our fast-paced modern world, finding time to connect with nature can seem challenging. However, a groundbreaking study from the UK, published in June 2019, sheds light on the incredible health benefits of spending time outdoors. The researchers from the University of Exeter discovered that just 120 minutes (two hours) per week in nature can significantly boost your health and well-being.
The study, which analyzed data from nearly 20,000 participants between 2014 and 2016, found that it doesn’t matter whether you spend those two hours in nature all at once or spread them out over the week. Participants who spent at least two hours a week outdoors reported better health and a greater sense of well-being compared to those who didn’t spend any time in natural settings. Interestingly, the study also noted that spending more than two hours didn’t provide additional health benefits.
The data, gathered from the Monitor of Engagement with the Natural Environment survey, revealed several important insights:
One possible explanation is that time spent in nature often involves physical activity, which is known to improve health. However, study leader Mathew P. White, an environmental psychologist, pointed out that the benefits were consistent across all demographic groups, including men and women, older and younger adults, different ethnic groups, and those living with long-term illnesses.
This isn't the only research highlighting the benefits of nature. A British analysis of 143 studies, published in October 2018, included data from around 290 million people across 20 countries. The analysis concluded that forest therapy was associated with lower levels of cortisol, blood pressure, and heart rate. Additionally, it was linked to lower cholesterol, reduced rates of diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, asthma, and decreased risk of preterm birth. Forest therapy also improved sleep and outcomes in those with cancer and neurological conditions.
The evidence is clear: spending just two hours a week in nature can have a profound impact on your health and well-being. Whether it's a walk in the park, a hike on a nearby trail, or simply sitting in your garden, making time for nature is an investment in your overall health. So, why not start today? Embrace the healing power of nature and experience the benefits for yourself.

Life has a funny way of throwing curveballs, and sometimes, those curveballs are a
series of increasing life-alerting events that perfectly play out to the soundtrack to "It's a Hard-Knock Life." Here’s a little glimpse into my recent past present and future pull with the Mystery Deck.
First up, the Meteorite card crashed into my spread, symbolizing that something
significant and potentially life-altering had just landed. It was the universe's not-so-subtle way of saying, “Yep, things definitely went down.”
But as the dust settled, the Caterpillar card wriggled its way in, reminding me that after every significant shake-up comes a digestion period. This card suggests that amidst the chaos, there’s an opportunity to grow, transform, and prepare for what’s next—much like a caterpillar preparing for its metamorphosis into a butterfly.
Finally, grounding the reading was the Iron card. Strong and steadfast iron called on me to stay grounded and rely on my roots. In the context of my reading, it was a clear nod toward family and the foundational role they play when the going gets tough.
This trio of cards, despite initially seeming like the heralds of doom and gloom, actually painted a picture of resilience and transformation. The journey from upheaval with the Meteorite, through transformation with the Caterpillar, to stability with Iron, reminds us that life’s challenges are also its greatest opportunities for growth.
So, here’s to finding strength in the chaos and trusting in the slow, steady process of coming out stronger on the other side. Remember, it's not just about surviving the storm but learning how to dance in the rain (or meteor shower, in my case).

In the whirlwind of adult life, with its incessant demands, unexpected twists, and the ever-present shadow of personal expectations, finding a moment of tranquility can seem like a quest for a mirage. Life is inherently challenging, with its complex tapestry woven from threads of financial responsibilities, political turbulence, and the nuanced dynamics of family and friends. It's a journey that demands navigation through stormy seas, often leaving us feeling like we are bearing the brunt of life's trials more heavily than others. Yet, in the midst of this tumult, I've discovered a unique source of reflection and wisdom: the mystery deck.
The mystery deck has become a sanctuary for my thoughts, a place where I can seek solace and, perhaps, a new perspective on the convolutions of daily life. It's a tool that, time and again, offers me a mirror to my current state, reflecting not just the surface-level turmoil but the deeper currents that shape my journey. This morning's experience with the deck was a testament to its profound resonance with my life's current chapter.
As I stand on the precipice of finalizing a divorce settlement, the financial and emotional stakes loom large. The division of assets, especially when one has been the primary breadwinner, brings a sharp sting of injustice, tinged with the bitterness of seeing one's hard-earned achievements halved. Coupled with the looming necessity to part with a dream home, the world's weight seems unyielding. Yet, amidst this storm of worry and reflection, the mystery deck offered profound clarity.
The card drawn was "Silver," a symbol rich in historical and metaphorical significance. Described as a valued antiquity and a medium of investment, the card delved into the lore of silver's power against mythical monsters before steering the narrative toward reflection and self-examination. It urged a meditation on life's path, the balance of satisfaction and dissatisfaction, and, most poignantly, the relationship with money.
It said, “Drawing this card tells you it is time for reflection. During the nights of the full moon, try meditating on the course of your life. Think back over the events of the recent past. What are your sources of satisfaction and dissatisfaction? What needs to change? Also, consider your relationship with money. Does enough come to you to meet your needs? Do you use it wisely? Are you saving and investing for your future? Be confident that you can overpower any monsters you may encounter."
This message struck a chord deep within me. Yes, the financial security I've worked tirelessly to build is now under threat, yet the card's wisdom was clear: the true monsters are the fears and worries that cloud my vision. My relationship with money, complicated by my parents' struggles and successes, is a tapestry of mixed messages and deep-seated fears of loss. Yet, here I am, blessed with financial stability, albeit facing a temporary setback.
The card's message was a beacon of hope in a tumultuous sea. It reminded me that I have the power to overcome my "monsters". My financial acumen, nurtured by a legacy of hard work and wise investments, will guide me through this storm. The importance I place on financial security and the joys it brings is a testament to my values and the life I've built.
In sharing this experience, I hope to offer a glimpse into the solace that the mystery deck can provide. It reminds us that, in the midst of life's chaos, we can find moments of clarity and wisdom that guide us back to our path. It teaches us that, though the storms may rage, our inner strength and reflections can lead us to calmer waters.

In today's world, travelers seek more than just a place to stay; they crave authentic experiences that immerse them in the local culture. One way to cater to this desire is by curating a hotel gift shop or retail store that celebrates the essence of your destination. By infusing your merchandise with local flavor, you enhance the guest experience, support the community, and differentiate your establishment from the competition. Here are some tips to help you make your hotel gift shop or retail store more local-friendly:
Know Your Community: Take the time to understand the unique aspects of your local community, including its history, traditions, artisans, and cultural landmarks. Did you know Tucson, Arizona, is a health and wellness hub? The famous 10x NYT best-selling author and inventor of Integrative medicine and celebrity physician Dr. Andrew Weil lives here and created the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. The Andrew Weil Center trains physicians in Integrative Medicine, which considers all available therapies, including Western, botanical, lifestyle, functional medicine, Chinese, and ayurvedic evidence-based practices. He has many products, including a reflection and meditation deck modeled after oracle cards called the Mystery Deck.
Curate Authentic Products: Stock your shelves with locally made goods that reflect the spirit of your destination. Drs. Andrew Weil and Ann Marie Chassion created The Mystery deck in Tucson, Arizona. It truly tells the story of nature through beautiful artwork and symbolic reflections. Your guest will feel genuinely connected to the desert and their surroundings. It helps the user identify your life's patterns and how they evolve.
Support Local Artisans and Businesses: Showcase the talent of local artisans and entrepreneurs by featuring their products in your store. Dr. Andrew Weil was the first physician in the United States to study mushrooms. He has studied botanicals and their medicinal effects on health. We believe that nature is the source of healing.
Offer Experiential Merchandise: Consider offering merchandise that allows guests to engage with the local culture on a deeper level. The Mystery Deck enables users to gain insight into questions and problems that confront them. It may enable you to discern the dynamics that underlie those patterns and cause them to change over time, thus allowing a glimpse into the future.
Emphasize Sustainability and Ethical Sourcing: Choose products made in the USA. The Mystery Deck is made in the USA by local artists and physicians to give buyers a good feeling about investing in local entrepreneurs.
In conclusion, making your hotel gift shop or retail store more local-friendly is not just about selling products—it's about creating meaningful connections with your guests and supporting the community in which you operate.

Have you ever experienced the fascinating phenomenon of "picking a card" or repeatedly noticing a particular symbol or sign? It's as if the universe is trying to tell you something, nudging you to pay attention to a message meant just for you. Recently, I had a profound encounter with this phenomenon that I'd like to share.
It all began when I decided to pull a card from my Mystery Deck. As fate would have it, the card I pulled was adorned with an owl, a majestic creature known for its wisdom and intuition. Little did I know, this simple act would set off a chain reaction of synchronicities that left me in awe.
Suddenly, owls seemed to be everywhere I turned. From spotting an owl tattoo on a stranger at Starbucks to stumbling upon a children's book featuring owls at an airport gift shop, the universe was unmistakably sending me a message. But what did it mean?
As I delved deeper into the symbolism of the owl, I realized that this wasn't merely a series of coincidences. The owl was a powerful messenger, urging me to delve into the depths of my healing journey. The card I pulled held significance beyond its surface appearance; it catalyzed introspection and growth.
In that moment of realization, I felt a sense of reassurance wash over me. It reminded me that I was still on the path of healing, and there were depths within myself waiting to be explored. And so, I followed the breadcrumbs laid out by the universe, embarking on a journey to uncover the hidden truths within me.
Ultimately, that simple act of "picking a card" led me to seek out a shaman and delve into my trauma with newfound courage and clarity. It was a profound reminder of the power of synchronicity and the guidance that surrounds us when we're open to receiving it.
So, the next time you find yourself drawn to a particular symbol or sign, pay attention. It may be the universe speaking directly to you, guiding you along your own path of growth and self-discovery. Embrace the synchronicities, trust in the process, and let the journey unfold before you. After all, the universe works in mysterious ways, always leading us exactly where we need to be.

Life is full of questions, crossroads, and challenges. When seeking guidance, some look to the stars, some to introspective meditation, and some to the ancient art of tarot and oracle card reading. If you're new to these practices or have never even heard of them before, fear not! This guide will walk you through the basics of using both the Mystery Deck and Oracle Cards (a form of tarot) to help navigate those pivotal life moments.
The Mystery Deck: A Tarot for Beginners
The Mystery Deck, as its name implies, is designed with the beginner in mind, offering straightforward insights without overwhelming the user with complex symbolism.
Oracle Cards: Another Window to Wisdom
Unlike traditional tarot, which has a somewhat fixed set of 78 cards, oracle decks can vary greatly in the number of cards and themes. They offer guidance, clarity, and perspective.
In Closing
Whether you're drawn to the enigmatic pull of the Mystery Deck or the clear messages of Oracle Cards, both tools can provide guidance, clarity, and reflection in times of uncertainty. Embrace them with an open heart and mind, and let the journey of self-discovery and insight begin. Remember, the true power doesn't lie in the cards but in how we interpret and apply their wisdom.

This morning I heard an acquaintance say “Wellness is a practice, not a pill.” I loved how he summed up the importance of taking care of one’s self. Taking care of one’s self requires paying attention to health, mood and staying connected to what is around each of us.
Nature is a powerful tool to stay connected to self. We are part of nature. We forget in the era of internet, office buildings and working in doors. Our bodies need nature. Research has shown that healing is augmented by being in nature or even looking at nature photographs. The most recent study demonstrated that spending 10 minutes in nature just before taking an exam improved students exam scores.
There are many ways to connect to nature, starting with going outside. However, there is a myriad of ways if one just pitches one’s awareness to it. Try growing plants indoors, working with an animal ally, or exploring the energy of nature and energy medicine. Noticing is all it takes. The body and soul will soak it up. A client of mine exploring this came back to me exclaiming about all the trees near her home in New York City; she had not really paid attention to them as an adult until she began to really look for nature in everything.
Enjoy the journey!

There's a unique magic that unfolds when a group of women embarks on a journey together, especially in the breathtaking beauty of Sedona. As we set out on our girl's trip, little did we know that this adventure would not only take us through awe-inspiring landscapes but also reveal the true essence of the people we were with. This captivating journey allowed us to form deeper connections and understand each other on a profound level.
Initially, some of us were acquaintances, while others were friends who hadn't yet discovered the depths of our similarities and struggles. But as the days passed in Sedona, our shared experiences began to weave a tapestry of bonded friendship. There's something about being away from the usual routines and surroundings that strips away facades and reveals our true selves.
Our first adventure was hiking through Sedona's Midgely trails, immersing ourselves in the splendor of towering red rocks and serene desert landscapes. As we navigated the winding paths together, we laughed, shared stories, and took in the sounds of nature. Initially, we were going to try to hike one of the more popular trails, but they were packed. I am so glad we didn't because the trail we found took us to a beautiful uncrowded spot called Grasshopper Point. Grasshopper point is renowned for its natural beauty, crystal-clear waters, and stunning red rock surroundings. The luck we had today to randomly search for a nearby trail and land in one so beautiful. After hiking we headed into town and grabbed a bit to eat and then explored all the incredible shops Sedona has to offer.
In the evening, we gathered around a fire and took turns talking. Wanting to do something that would further bond us, we pulled out the Mystery Deck Oracle Cards. Although this group of women were not into metaphysical decks, it was easy to convince them to pull a card as they were familiar with Dr. Andrew Weil. We took turns pulling a card, and with each card drawn, conversations deepened, vulnerabilities were shared, and authentic connections blossomed. The mystery deck acted as a catalyst for emotional exploration, fostering a sense of trust and belonging within the group.
Our girl's trip to Sedona was not just about exploring the natural wonders of the landscape; it was a transformative journey that revealed the true essence of each individual. As we returned home, our bonds strengthened, and the memories of this soul-enriching trip would forever hold a special place in our hearts. Sedona had gifted us not only with its majestic beauty but also with the priceless gift of authentic connections.

One of Hippocrates' main tenets of healing was “Revere the Healing Power of Nature.” Nature has long been known to have a calming effect on the human mind and body. The same patterns that dictate healing in humans dictate healing in the natural world; it is our disconnection from nature that may be the underlying cause of stress and many current medical conditions. As our current lives are becoming more removed from nature, we are missing the underlying healing that is present within nature. This connection between nature and healing has been explored through the millennia and now the scientific evidence demonstrates that there is indeed a healing power of nature.
The evidence to date demonstrates that just five minutes of exposure to green space can produce measurable improvements in mood and self-esteem, a 50-minute walk in nature improved memory and attention span by 20 percent, and that nature exposure can reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety and lower cortisol levels (a hormone associated with stress.) There is even evidence that exposure to nature can increase feelings of awe and wonder, which in turn can lead to greater life satisfaction and well-being. One study found that patients recovering from surgery who had a view of nature from their hospital room required less pain medication and had shorter hospital stays than those with a view of a brick wall; as a result of this newer data, photographs of nature scenes are starting to hang in Emergency Departments and hospital hallways.
Yet nature has more to offer us than photographs on a wall or even walking outdoors. Birds, plants, energy and even the stars - these are all a part of nature, as we humans are. While it is clear that history and the scientific evidence now agree that a connection to nature is healing, remembering this connection in any way one can will augment our human experience to a life much larger than our offices, screens and supermarkets. Go out and look at the moon, watch the birds in the park, go for a hike, or look at photographs of beautiful landscapes or nebulae to reduce stress, boost cognitive function, reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, and increase feelings of awe and wonder.
